Q. Did Cyrix redesigned the FPU on the 6x86MX?
A. Definitely not! The FPU on the 6x86MX is essentially the same one that exists on the 6x86. There was not a redesign although FPU operations will benefit from the faster clock speeds that are available with the 6x86MX. If you rely heavily on FPU operations, however, the 6x86MX like it sibling the 6x86 is not for you.
Q. Are there optimizers available for the 6x86MX?
A. Yes, optimizers are available for the 6x86MX. Mikael Johansson has coded support for the 6x86MX in the latest release of his ever popular 6x86opt optimizer. Olivier Gilloire claims to offer 6x86MX in the current version of his 6x86cfg optimizer also. All of the latest and greatest 6x86MX files and utilities are available for download on my Files and Utilities page.
Q. Will I gain performance by overclocking my 150MHz (75MHz x 2) 6x86MX PR200 to 166MHz (66MHz x 2.5)?
A. No! There is no benefit in overclocking a 150MHz (75MHz x2) 6x86MX PR200 part to 166MHz (66MHz x 2.5). The performance difference between the two is insignificant. If you want to overclock a 150MHz (75MHz x2) 6x86MX PR200 part to gain performance, your most viable option is 166MHz (83MHz x 2).
