About the Site

Welcome to AlternativeCPU.com! This site was formerly Cyrix Upgrade Advice Guideknown as the Cyrix Upgrade Advice Guide.  AlternativeCPU.com has taken its place.

AlternativeCPU.com exists to provide comprehensive information about non-Intel Socket-7 microprocessors and give attention to issues surrounding them.

AlternativeCPU.com is not an anti-Intel site.  I have owned and enjoyed many Intel microprocessors in the past.  However, I think that there are viable alternatives currently in the marketplace that previously did not exist.   Alternative CPUs often offer better performance for much less money than their Intel equivalents.  My objective is simply to eliminate FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) and accurately inform others.

AlternativeCPU.com is also not a fan site.  I am not pushing a personal agenda.  The information and editorial content presented here will be fair, objective, and based on fact.

If you are here looking for reviews of software, video cards, modems, harddrives, etc., then you will be disappointed.  You will never find product reviews on this site that are not related to Alternative CPUs and mainboards that support them. I prefer to specialize on one subject area rather than spread myself thin and focus on general hardware issues.  I do not have the time or energy to manage that much content.  However, if you are interested in Alternative CPUs you are guaranteed to get the most accurate, up to date information on the Web at AlternativeCPU.com

The goal of the this website is to be the premier independent alternative CPU educational resource available to the Internet community. This will continually be my focus. Any comments or feedback that you would care to share to help me obtain this goal would be greatly appreciated.

I wrote this page after getting sick of reading so many complaints about alternative processors in the comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.chips newsgroup day after day. I felt that alternative CPUs were often being unjustly flamed as a result of people being uninformed and having unrealistic expectations of them. Most people seemed more interested in arguing Intel vs. Cyrix or Intel vs. AMD than discussion that might be productive.

I wanted to share information and resources that I had found during my research on whether I should buy an alternative processor to help others make an educated buying decision and avoid potential pitfalls. This page will hopefully will eliminate confusion for others.
