The First 365 Days

A Special Thanks

The Cyrix Upgrade Advice Guide celebrated its first anniversary today, Tuesday, September 9, 1997. One year equates to an eternity in Internet time. I must admit that I am feeling a great sense of accomplishment. Upon reflection, this site has been more successful than I ever dreamed possible and I think that I have been able to educate people on Cyrix/IBM processors along the way.

Party TimeOver the last year this site has gone through a significant number of changes. What started out as a learning exercise eventually turned in to commercial venture. I was lucky enough to pick up a number of terrific sponsors along the way. I can't thank Real World Technologies, PowerLeap Products, and IBM Microelectronics enough. Without their support I doubt that this site would exist today. I have to pay my ISP somehow. If you like this website and it has assisted you in the past, please voice your support for it by supporting those vendors who sponsor the site. I would also like to thank the Cyrix Corp. for their assistance and a great product.

This site has been referenced in newspapers and magazines and on radio and television programs around the world. However, the fact that so many of you decided that it was worth referencing on your webpage is what means the most to me. I forged new relationships with many of you and I made some new friends.

I owe my success in part to all of you dedicated readers and return visitors. I couldn't have done it without you. Your constant feedback is invaluable. Although keeping the site fresh and up to date hasn't always been fun, I have no plans to quit anytime soon. I hope to be around this time next year celebrating my second anniversary, although I sorely need a vacation.

My goals for the next year are to continue to expand the cause of alternative CPUs. Accurate, up to date, and an overwhelming amount of CPU information has been and will continue to be my focus while the other guys concentrate on motherboards. Don't be surprised to see this site give the same in-depth coverage to additional alternative CPUs from manufacturers other than Cyrix and IBM. The possibilities include AMD, DEC, and IDT. Does anyone have a spare AMD K6 lying around? You don't think that I choose alternativecpu.com as my domain name by accident do you? Email me at rbdavis@alternativecpu.com with things that you would like to see in the future. Comments as always are welcome and greatly appreciated.

I dug through my old website backups looking for the front page html file dated on September 9, 1996, but I couldn't find it. The oldest one that I could find was dated on October 28, 1996. I posted it on my personal account for your viewing pleasure. You should get a good laugh out of this blast from the past. I know that I did. Wow does it look retro. I am sure that some of you will remember it. My only excuse it that I was still trying to learn the html ropes back then.
