Renaming Flags

Sorry if my question is dumb, but:

Why can't rename registers be extended to hold
the arithmetic flags that resulted as a
side effect of the operation that assigned the
rename register? Plus a mask indicating which
flags were actually affected?

Wouldn't this kind of solution eliminate some
of the restrictions listed above?
