am not familiar with transistor case. but i do agree that
comparing to other areas of law, patent law is more
affect by public policy and a country's economic interest.

often you can guess what a country is good at just
by looking at which areas it chooses to extend patent
protection, and actually enforce the protection
through its court systems.

here in the US we have arguably the most comprehensive
and balanced patent system. hence a more balanced economy
than the Europeans and Asians. although there're always
forces seeking to weaken US's comparative advantages.
so knock on the wood.
