AMD will be there, as will everyone else. TSMC and GloFo do not offer the tech YET, and are unlikely to in less than 18 months. There is also the problem of no standards for higher speed DRAMs in a stack, so no mass produced memory, so not affordable.

The stackable high speed DRAM is coming, that is good. It is working through JEDEC, that is less good. :) I expect AMD to be 12-18 months behind Intel, and they are a year away themselves, if all the stars line up.

And yes, it is hard, nothing at this scale is easy. Many problems don't surface until you DO it, so that is another set of headaches. Last, it is costly, but cost = yield ~= hardness.
