I don't know the original info you got but a 512 bit LPDDR2
bus inside the package is in principle easy using standard
mass fabrication methods. It is relatively cheap using the
standard parts and freedom of choice of procurement from
any of the major DRAM manufacturers. It gives you 4GB..8GB
now and a 16GB option later this year which should be enough
for most of the users.

LPDDR2 is an electrical/signaling/package standard defined
for DRAM, Flash and DRAM/Flash combos which goes up to
1,066 Mb/sec/pin over a 64 bit bus. 512 bit would be a 3x3
array of LPDDR2 packages with the center location open for
power dissipation management.
