I'd guess the case is more likely that he wants to see the numbers and debug and optimize his codes well before customers start to deploy them. And likely it uses MPI on clusters as well, so if AVX offered a really big speedup they might be compelled to look at less usual configurations (although it seems they still don't do ECC in consumer grade devices -- dammit Intel!)
