But do end-product makers want Intel? Current model seems like a vertical integration with heavy licensing and outsourcing. Eg. Samsung produces a smartphone or tablet that it designs by itself, and that contains a display form Samsung, a SOC from Samsung, flash from Samsung, RAM from Samsung; but pays licences to CPU Core and GPU core makers, and OS makers and others. Apple produces a tablet with it's own, designed by itself OS and SOC, but outsources it's production to other company and pays licensing for various components.

Intel is just not compatible with that model. In fact it operates as if to prevent it - producers are not stupid and noticed the fate of Nvidia chipsets on Intel platform. They know that Intel wants everything, and gives no chance to add any value in a SOC world. That simply means Intel has to be avoided. It's not that x86 has no chance - AMD new lowend offerings may be valid for smaller devices when 28nm process is ready.
