OLED displays at a third of the resolution are not better.
They are lower power, but the color quality is poor, and lifetimes are poor.

I have been waiting on the OLED promise for near a decade, its still too expensive, and it still is not scaling to larger sizes, so it still sucks compared to ordinary LCDs.

Designing and building a quad res display is not rocket science, any firm in the industry can do it.
All of them probably have prototypes.

Steve Jobs is just about the only one with the balls and the money to order 10 million of them to drive the cost down near regular displays, and sell them.

Not $9,000 toys for the rich, real products that millions will use.

Apple will create the market, Apple will get credit for "inventing" the quad res retina display, and no one will remember the pioneers with the arrows in their backs that came first.

Some Apple hater will say Xerox Parc invented it first, only to be ignored for being a fool.
