Assume you have a talented person. A person who has many possible career paths available. Wouldn't EE/IT/programing career be not well paid as normalized by this person abilities? So if a young person good at math and physics sorts all careers available for him by income, then EE will never be on top or even close to the top? Eg. such person can easily enter the world of finances or other where they pay better. And if a person is generally talented (not only in sciences) then a career in sales or management may be much more profitable than working as an engeneer.
People from poor countries may find an engeneering job in a rich country attractive because it may still pay better than being a lawyer or lower-level manager in their native country.
