That would have been far too expensive.

I'm guessing that another 2 DDR channels would have cost several watts and around 20mm2, maybe more. You'd need a large number of extra pins in the socket, which adds real cost. Worse yet, you'd need to have 4 DIMMs for good performance, which would add too much system cost and power consumption for any notebooks.

Llano is already a huge die, given the target prices, anything larger would kill their margins.

Hrmmm? I am not following you. But I'm guessing the problem is mostly one of economics. 4 channels of DDR3 is far too expensive for anything but a server.
