I doesn't matter if you believe in bitcoins (I certainly don't), but what matters is if other people believe. You can run mining software on your computer, and immediately sell any bitcoins you mine, you can earn money. Although, without an efficient GPU or FPGA, you probably won't earn enough to pay for the electricity.
