6274 == 16 mini-cores 2.2ghz, performs tad worse than intel sixcore @ 2.9Ghz
4284 == 8 mini-cores, $340, and just 3.0Ghz. Every Xeon chip with hyperthreading and all sixcores are gonna beat that bigtime. And guess what, their old AMD sixcore 2.8Ghz the 4184 is aso priced $340.
On ebay the 4184 is between $125 and $275 in various offers.
AMD's new cpu's can't beat their old ones convincingly.
Price of dual socket mainboards of AMD is way way too high.
Even from dual socket-f, a mainboard that can have the sixcores, like this 4184. Try to find a cheap one.
they're way way too expensive.
For massive processing, you can get off ebay dirt cheap 2 socket xeon machines socket 771.
Say L5420 gets massively dumped now @ $40 a piece or so on ebay.
Nothing from AMD can rival that as the multisocket mainboards are way too expensive.
For price of 1 mainboard you can buy entire node.
$200 - $300 for a full server equipped with 2 quadcores @ 2.5ghz, 8 GB ram and 2 harddrives.
There is nothing from AMD that can compete with that, if you build a small cluster.
>BTW, in Q3, according to IDC, Cray bought Interlagos 16c for 1140$ ASP. Does Cray or its customers feel cheated now?
