That's a heck of a flip from what I expected; I didn't think HP's case was all that great. Then again, I also didn't think Oracle's was very good -- HP has the right to pay Intel to build Itanium chips, after all. It's hard to claim HP misled its customers into believing Itanium had a future when HP was paying hundreds of millions to make sure it *did.*
Still I wonder what the long-term effect will be. Even if HP wins, Oracle will appeal, and will request a stay of injunction pending that appeal. It could be another 1-2 years before all appeals are exhausted, and in the meantime, customers will wonder if Oracle will simply yank the rug out from under them again if they get a favorable ruling.
