In movies and TV, frames naturally include motion blur which helps create the illusion of a smooth movement.

A lot of games don't have any motion blur at all, each frame is pristine and clear. Or they have poor motion blur.
High FPS thus needed to create the illusion of smooth movement.

(That, in addition to the matter of slow rendering frames.)
