I think that the power for DRAM is (roughly) proportional to the bandwidth used.
So ... 25 GB/sec for 8 GB DRAM that maybe consumes 4-8 watts turns into
something much worse when you are running at 64 GB/sec.
If the power savings is ~10W, then, yes, this matters.
