I didn't say that no one can increase IPC at all. But thinking that Intel can just turn a dial and increase single-threaded performance because they have to, without any tangible explanation how, that's what's naive. Not to mention that they've been artificially holding back these massive improvements.

I bet if someone back in 2008 were to tell you what the single threaded performance improvements would be over the next several years you'd say the same thing you are now, how that'd never happen because Intel needs to do better. Sooner or later you're going to have to come to grips with the fact that exponential improvement isn't sustainable, and you're going to have to understand that there's more limiting performance than number of transistors.
