Changes in MPU design methodologies?

Mr. Demone,

Could you give a little more explanation as to how IBM's design is more automated than other companies? You may have to dumb it down a little for me as I am not quite as well versed as most here. Also, on a tangent of Mr. Stacpoole's question, how far off is automated design from really competeing with full custom design. In other words, you pointed out that although IBM's strategy allows them to quicker exploit the advantages of smaller processes, what would it take in order to have automated design not only be able to come out with something that works, but also works well?
