Btw, while I'm not a huge fan of the P4 microarchitecture, I do have to give it credit for being interesting and very clever in many ways. I think the P4 was <much more impressive architecturally than any of the itanium implementations ever were (or, later on, the thoroughly boring and plodding original atom core).
So it may not have been a success, and I don't like how fragile it was, but it was a very impressive piece of engineering, and did pretty damn radical things. Hats off for that.
