As for Zen, at this point I would expect the properties of the final product to be determined more by AMDs funds, time and engineering resources (or rather lack of them) than high level architectural choices like the one discussed. Given their situation I would imagine that they are really pushing the schedule on this project and are having all the usual problems associated with that. I will be pleasantly surprised if they even get something to market that is not utterly embarrassing (although deep down, I still foolishly hope for a home run and some competition in the high end desktop space).
