IBM retakes TPC-C crown with P690, AIX and...DB2?

I don't disagree. My point is that listing the OS/400 and zOS versions along with the others is misleading in that there is little commonality between the three code bases ("it runs on all these platforms" - not really), and the performance characteristics of the three are largely unrelated to each other.

OTOH, I don't doubt that IBM was specifically targeting TPC-C style (and other "business") workloads for POWER4, and that DB2 and AIX have influenced the other's feature set and performance goals. DB2 on any platform other than Windows is competitive at worst (of course, for the OS/400 version that's not saying much, given the lack of competition). On Windows, nothing much competes with SQL Server, but DB2 holds up well against everything else.
