Note that server rooms are not always simple neither, the width of the rack is not the only point.
Some world areas insist (i.e. will never buy) a front-to-back cooling system while other world areas will not accept side-to-side cooling... and everyone want hotplug to replace failing boards...
It is amasingly difficult to design a system which can be configured for either ways of cooling.
Moreover, aircond rooms have special requirements: if the processor becomes too hot, do not do anything in firmware/software (but hardware over-limit switch-off protection), we will just increase power to the aircond...
