Autoincrement creates artificial dependencies between the iterations of a loop for each memory access.
If you use [base+index] style instead, the only dependency is through the loop counter.
Not a big deal for low-end embedded stuff, but for a wide superscalar, you really don't want your code to contain dependencies that could have been avoided.
