Vega VII would have been too expensive to produce, if Nvidia hadn't jacked up the prices at that performance level so drastically. Not too exciting an alternative for gamers, but if double precision throughput happens to be unlocked as in the compute variants of this chip, then there will be a market for it.


The CineBench demo against a 9900K was not really revealing much. IMHO the performance gap there could be mostly closed by Zen2's SIMD FPU widening to 256 bits. I don't expect significant IPC improvements for spaghetti code. The low power consumption was nice, though, and should enable nice Threadripper models within the original 180 watts limit. Or 16 core Ryzens in current AM4 mainboards, for that matter.
