Unfortunately there was no information about DP throughput. Nevertheless, if it is not crippled too much, i.e. if is at least 1/8 of SP throughput, then this will become the device with the best DP performance per dollar, so yes, I agree that there will be a market for it.

Actually I believe that the low power consumption was more than nice, because the difference was dramatic, not just a few percents.

Such a low power consumption will enable an acceptable performance for the 16C variant in this package.

There was a leak, possibly fake but plausible, where the 16C model was 125 W / 3.9 GHz base / 4.7 GHz turbo and the 12C model was 105 W / 4.2 GHz base / 5.0 GHz turbo.


It is very likely that there will also be an APU variant which will use the empty space for a GPU die.


The variant with 2 chiplets and up to 16-cores has been confirmed after the presentation. Quote from the interview of Lisa Su published in PCWorld:


“Some people may have noticed on the package some extra room,” she said with a chuckle. “There is some extra room on that package and I think you might expect we will have more than eight cores.”
