In their newest json event downloads, Intel have fixed the problem - the events now align with the names and use the correct umasks I had suggested in the table. Although they haven't made it into Mainline yet, you can see Andi Kleen's checkin of the new definitions for linux perf here (other good tidbits in that change too).

I don't know if someone actually read that, or if it was noticed another way and the timing was coincidential - but in any case it's fixed!
