No, sony is an international conglomerate. They do lots of things. And no PS4 didn't drive movie sales, that would of been the PS3 which at the time was the cheapest BR player you could buy. BR is all but dead. Sony is well aware of this. Putting an optical drive in the PS5 will have ~0 impact on sony optical disk movie sales.
The console division has to pay for itself. The PS3 had significant financial issues that reinforced this. If they can save money by not spending it on a basically useless optical drive, they will.
