"tiny niche of people who render or encode or compile" well I don't think it's a small niche. How many people take videos, then want to cut a clip out to share? How many people are in tech jobs? If you want to develop for iOS, you have to compile on macOS.

I also wasn't trying to make an exhaustive list. If you want more examples, think big excel sheets (try a graph with 10k data points), OCR, photo editing, research/scientific workloads, searching through a 4000 page PDF, compressing huge files for backup, and so on. All of those would noticeably benefit from faster desktop chips.

I guess Apple doesn't really care because macOS is going nowhere anyways. But I would like to see faster desktop chips. An attempt at a wider, high clocked desktop chip would be cool.
