What, if anything, is the anointed successor?

- Infiniband, ostensibly an open standard, but nowadays in practice a Mellanox technology. MLNX recently bought by Nvidia.

- Gen-z; Intel not a member.

- Ethernet would be my guess. Particularly since at long last the latest Intel NIC supports RoCE. Also buying Barefoot networks might indicate this?
