With Bulldozer again briefly in the news I was wondering about its microarchitecture. I think that we can all say Bulldozer was not a success. That's a failure that's going to dog any attempt to do a clustering design going forward. But at the same time what I've read said that the clustering aspect of the Bulldozer design worked fairly well and it was other aspects of its microarchitecture that were most lacking. At the same time, could those other aspects have been forced by the decision to do clustering? And AMD's design decisions in Zen certainly make it look like they don't think clustering is the way forward. So I'd like to hear all of your thoughts on this.
