As already noted elsewhere, while getting him to say that explicitly proved impossible he claimed the Madison would out-perform its competitors *in the specific context* of a discussion about SPECint performance, citing Intel-internal knowledge upon which to base that opinion. And since part of that immediate context was the 1202 SPECint score reported by Fred Weber, the clear implication was that Madison would better it.

(But in a quick search I couldn't find a statement that quite justified paraphrasing that as 'beat the bejazus', so my memory clearly added a bit of additional emphasis.)

We all
>know how badly you act up when you think others rashly *assume* things.

Which is why unlike many people I make it a practice not to, unless I identify the assumptions explicitly.

>Again another instance of your remarkable capacity for hypocrasy.

No, just another of your own incompetence in analyzing a discussion before presuming to judge it.

By the way, if you're going to use a word repeatedly and inappropriately, at least learn how to spell it.

>Curious you didn't bother with a SPECfp2k estimate for a 1.5 GHz Madison.

Not at all: it's not an area of interest to me (nor to most software of commercial significance). File and storage system software really couldn't care less about it, for example, and most of the rest of the kernel isn't far behind in this respect. Database software at least uses it in a few places, but still not enough for any performance advantages to register.

That Itanic would lead in SPECfp performance has never been much at issue. That this wouldn't be all that important to its success has seemed to be accepted almost as universally.

>What's your estimate Bill? How does that compare to Opteron and POWER4+?

Would like that per-chip (we could I suppose perform a per-mm^2 analysis for Opteron until a dual-core version appears), or per-Watt, or per-$ (I don't know how this last would work out for POWER4+, but PPC970 is coming right along too for people sensitive in that area)? Just another example of the problems Itanic faces even in those few areas where in some respects it leads.
