The previous rumors about AMD Milan / Zen 3 seemed to indicate that there will probably little changes in the core but mostly in the L3 and inter-core communication, by replacing two 4-core clusters per chiplet with a single 8-core cluster per chiplet.
However the latest statements by Forrest Norrod say that the next Zen will have a new improved microarchitecture, so that the evolution of Zen will resemble the former tick-tock model of Intel, i.e. that Zen 2 used the new 7-nm process with little improvements in microarchitecture, while Zen 3 will have the 7-nm plus, slightly improved process, with a new better microarchitecture.
