Why not initialize all variables to zero?

Is this an option you have considered for the kernel? What do you see as potential issues that might arise if you took that step?

I think everyone, even those who have criticized my post, have to agree that nondeterministic bugs are by far more difficult to solve. Even with deterministic bugs, reproducibility can be difficult. If the manifestation of the bug itself is nondeterministic, it can be effectively impossible to reproduce and thus effectively impossible to fix.
