What secrets does the kernel have?

With the recent increase in concern about side channels, I am
curious what valuable information could be leaked from the OS in
an SMT system. In terms of security, in my ignorance, I could
only think of address space randomization (which seems mostly a
second-line defense against return-oriented programming and
similar exploits) and TCP sequence numbers. (Filesystem
encryption might expose a key, I guess.) In terms of privacy,
there might be some information, but I would have guessed that
most of the private information is not touched by the OS.
