Well, while I agree with Maynard, that walling-off macosx does not make too much sense for Apple, I do not buy the listen to apple rationale at all. Because Apple can/will/and has changed official positions seemingly on a whim in the past. Typically by saying nothing at all before an announcement, but even 180 degree rotations existed in the past (and Apple is not different from other companies in that regard, except maybe better at keeping a secret ;) )
