The timings odd. Perhaps they wanted the engineers even if they didn't provide the chips they wanted. Maybe they did try to make an iPod/iPhone line in PPC (and presumably move everything to PPC) and got nowhere.
So my "Apple Silicon" concept was probably considered a lot more than I thought, although I'm sure they still considered it a longshot.
