I have no idea what STEM is supposed to refer to here and quick googling didn't help, but sure, some group of people need a Linux VM and don't benefit from booting to Linux on M1 Mac. I would hardly call them average without any context.

What value? I'm not talking about someone who needs to run two or more OSes on same hardware, where value of virtualization is obvious.

Larger problem is that you apparently once again presumed that everyone else is a mind reader and got offended because people answered your questions instead of what you wanted to ask.
