Methinks, overpriced is far more important than underwhelming.
Starting from SD855, for the audience this subthread is concerned about, CPU performance is acceptable.
Of course, Nuvia cores are not going to help to lower price. If anything, they would make things worse.
I am not even convinced that Qualcomm SOC price is the main obstacle. IMHO, a bigger problem is lack of interest from "cheap" OEMs, i.e. first and foremost Acer, but also from Gigabyte and MSI. Even HP is able to make decent cheap HW far better than MS. And they are also not interested.
As to wireless modem, I think, as far as Microsoft is concerned, it's strategic thing they are not going to give up on. They want their WinArm users hooked all the time, just as Google and Apple. Despite being hugely successful software vendor, Microsoft of today don't believe that vending (as opposed to leasing) software is a sustainable busyness.
