The problem is that compiler does not remove dead virtual functions.


struct A
{
virtual void foo() {}
virtual void bar() {}
virtual ~A() {}
};

Even nobody uses foo() or bar(), the compiler will still emit dead code to that function. That is why iostream is extremely bloat, just #include can bloat 800kb on typical GCC libstdc++ toolchain.

Qt and Cuda are even much worse, they can bloat 1GB of dead virtual functions inside the shared library.
