Gotta agree with all that. Zeroing is the only thing I'd want to do in large chunks. And one doesn't want to stick the data into registers - or destroy the cache for large memchrs. The instructions should allow pipelining to continue for following instructions - though they couldn't be retired or any stores commit till the move ended of course. That's fine though if one is just moving 25 characters. Perhaps ARM is trying to have good support for COBOL. ;-)
