Big integer multiplication with vector IFMA

That is obviously because Intel could not make their mind about whether to provide AVX-512 support in the majority of their CPUs.

After Tiger Lake, when there was a chance to build up in time a sufficient installed base of CPUs supporting AVX-512 to make worthwhile the software development for them, a set-back of at least 2 years came with Alder Lake and Raptor Lake.

Now it appears that the next laptop CPU with AVX-512 and IFMA support will be Meteor Lake, in the 2nd half of 2023.

Even with Meteor Lake. it is not clear which will be Intel's strategy, as there were rumors that Meteor Lake will be launched as mobile first, with the desktop variants delayed, if any. Therefore it is not known in which year might Intel be able for the first time to have AVX-512 support in all product ranges.


So it might happen that by the time when Meteor Lake will become available, a major part of the installed CPUs supporting IFMA, in not the greatest part, will be the AMD Zen 4 CPUs. This might force the hand of Intel to eventually provide AVX-512 support in all their CPUs.
