I read a research note that suggested that the reason why TSMC beat Intel to mastering EUV is because of its diverse customer base.
This implies that the sheer volumes of chips that TSMC shipped helped them ramp EUV into production faster than their competitors.
This doesn't make sense considering Intel's semiconductor volumes should have been large enough.
But yet, Intel is going full tilt into the foundry business to help them regain their manufacturing superiority.
Doesn't this seem like a waste of money and resources since their current large volumes should be sufficient?
