Room: Moderated Discussions
Some people might find this interesting:
https://blog.yiningkarlli.com/2021/10/takua-on-m1-max.html
a discussion of use of the M1 Max as a rendering engine.
The images are ridiculously high quality -- this is not your toy glass spheres renderer!
The discussion is not as technical as I would like, but does contain information probably interesting to a range of people. Also interesting is that, even though it deals with imagery, it's essentially a CPU review, none of the work is done on the GPU, so the win over M1 is
(somewhat, but likely small) in caches, and mainly in the capabilities made available by the extra RAM.
BTW I believe (Longhorn tweeted to this effect) that the A14 maxes out at 36 physical bits. The A15 maxes at (I think I'm remembering this correctly) 39 bits. This wasn't interesting when we assumed that the M1 successor would be A15 based, but it now seems a fairly strong hint that the M1 Pro/Max successors (at least the ones that go into the Mac Pro) will have to be at least A15 based (which still doesn't get you to that 1.5TB that apparently matters for some folks). So play that out as you will.
