I'm a software guy as well, who's never studied EE (beyond the stuff I needed to know to get my UK amateur radio licence) - and this video has many oversimplifications. It's attempting to describe some of the things that Poynting described with his vector when discussing how electromagnetic fields carry energy as part of the electromagnetic force.

It's not true to say that the magnetism does all the work; it is the electromagnetic force doing the work, using the electromagnetic fields to carry energy. In turn, the electromagnetic field is the magnetic field and the electric field in combination, and it's the combination of the two that's doing the work.
