Like I have said, reproducing figures and quotations from other publications is a common practice in patents, when describing the state of the art.

I do not believe that this is a sign of laziness, on the contrary, this makes the description of the state of the art much more credible, when the figures and statements are taken from authoritative publications, instead of making-up your own description and figures, which would allow you to set-up a straw-man of an imaginary state of the art, against which to compare the patent claims.
