If you're going to appeal to authority you will have to do a lot better than that. What was the verbatim question and answer.

My guess is (if you actually did ask a lawyer) that you asked the wrong question or misunderstood the answer. The statute does not talk about "publication" of an invention, it talks about "public disclosure". https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/35/102

And public disclosure is exactly what it sounds like
