Mechanically, there are at least 3 variants. One is, as you have said, with the PCIe SBC as a mezzanine card on a CompactPCI carrier.
The second uses a PCIe x4 external cable (and an adapter from external cable to standard PCIe slot), to connect to a PCIe SBC mounted elsewhere, outside the CompactPCI rack.
The third needs a rack that is mixed CompactPCI / CompactPCI Express. The SBC would be a CompactPCI Express card and the bridge card has to be inserted into a hybrid slot, making the link between CompactPCI and CompactPCI Express.
However, all the OTS products that I have seen were for 32-bit 66-MHz PCI, not for 64-bit PCI. For 64-bit PCI, I have seen only the corresponding bridge ICs, which should enable similar products, but I do not know if they are easy to find.
