Pretty sure it was "bumpgate" when back in the late 2000s Apple had Nvidia GPUs in its Macbook Pros, which were faulty and caused Apple no end of problems including a class action lawsuit. They were forced to replace them for free, and offer extended warranties, over a failure not of their making.
All the while Nvidia was downplaying the issue, and first claimed none of the GPUs in Macbooks were affected, and when that was proven wrong claimed it was very limited in nature which went against the fast escalating number of cases being reported to Apple.
It was a big black eye Apple didn't need right after converting to x86, and Nvidia's response left much to be desired. Design cycles being what they are it took a few years but Apple steadily pushed Nvidia out until they were no longer an option in any Mac.
Who knows what happened behind the scenes, but it obviously left a very bad taste in Apple HQ.
