There's been persistent rumors about brain drain to Nuvia. And then perhaps there's been some covid related disruptions to productivity. You have to wonder if the Apple Silicon team is just not going well atm and they just decided on doing a simple shrink to N4 just to have something new.

It's possible that N3 being rejected also has something to do with it.
